رابطه‌ی شانس و مسؤولیت اخلاقی در نگاه تامس نیگل

چکیده

ازنظر تامس نیگل مسؤولیت اخلاقی و شانس اخلاقی دو نوع قضاوت درباره‌ی شأن اخلاقی فاعل‌اند که اولی حاصل چشم‌انداز درونی به خودمان و جهان و مبتنی‌بر اختیار است و دومی حاصل چشم‌انداز خارجی و مبتنی‌بر عوامل خارج از کنترل. او با طرح چهار نوع شانس منتج، محیطی، سازنده و علّی، همه‌ی اعمال انسان را خارج از کنترل او می‌داند. لذا مسؤولیت اخلاقی را به نفع شانس اخلاقی رد می‌کند. مقاله‌ی حاضر بعد از تحلیل رابطه‌ی شانس و مسؤولیت اخلاقی ازنظر نیگل، واکنش دیگر فیلسوفان به دیدگاه او را در قالب سه رهیافت انکار، پذیرش و عدم‌انسجام بیان می‌کند و نتیجه می‌گیرد که نیگل با تمنای اراده‌ی آزادِ مطلق برای بشر از یک سو و پررنگ کردن تأثیر عوامل شانس بر عمل از سوی دیگر، اختیار و مسؤولیت اخلاقی انسان را منکر شده و دیدگاهی غیرقابل‌هضم درمورد انسان ارائه می‌دهد.
